Description
I modeled the base mesh in Wings3D, used the new Sculpt mode, surfaced, lit, and rendered in Blender. Post work in Photoshop (sorry I can't stand the Gimp)...

wow nerver seen something so brilliant done in blender looks fantastic and great detail
Prime
Thanks for the comments corvas :) , I've used other commercial apps for a while, but I love open source applications, I've used Blender for about 3 years and the last year or so its development has been nothing short of phenomenal...

Superbly done, I haven't finished my first play with the sculpt tool yet! As to the GIMP, it can take some adjustment when shifting from photoshop, and if you're in windows it really needs the de-weirdifier plug-in (I also use the pspi plug in to run photoshop plug ins too)
oodmb
nice work. the eyes are perfect. there is nothing wrong with liking photoshop, its a good program.
cmaupin
Awesome model. Great job!
jo3d

Mondwin
Fantastic and brilliant character...bravo!V:DDD.Hugsxx
Moebius87
Incredible work, my friend! Once again you have proven that it is NOT the tools that makes the art. :o)
auntietk
He reminds me of Leonard Nimoy. Whether you intended that or not, this is great work!
efflux
Nice model. Maybe we will see lots of new fantastic work like this with these sculpting tools. I'm sure it will make a few more people check the app out.

Hey Gog_CA1 , thanks the blender sculpt tool options are beautiful, what I'm really missing after working in Zbrush or Mudbox is the ability to hide portions of your model to speed up your modeling when the mesh get really dense, partial redraw seemed to work but only a little. I mainly use a Mac and I just can't get used to the Gimp, after years of using, my decade long Photoshop experience lets me do things without thinking... Still trying though, there's a slicker version of the Gimp on the Mac called Seashore but its feature set just isn't there yet. Hey oodmb, thanks, and no Photoshop is a fantastic program... can't imagine doing 2D without it. Thanks cmaupi, jo3d, and Mondwin glad you all liked it, it was very enjoyable for me to work on as well. Hi Moe it really has been a while, my last 3 images were in the gallery were a year in between. Great to see your still patronizing the ole' forum, please go visit forum.3dpinoy.com its back online!!! In my case I suck at tools, no matter what I make it, an which program I look it comes out the same :( . Hey auntietk now that you mentioned it Mouse Man does indeed look like Leonard Nimoy, since this character kind of looks like me too, that must mean that I kind of look like Leonard Nimoy! Which to me is a great compliment, I always thought he was quite the charmer, instead of that buffoon Kirk. (Apologies to that fine Canadian actor William Shatner) Hey efflux, I hope so Blender is sooo close to being good enough to compete against commercial apps, just a little bit more... just that 5% more that makes a good 3D package a really good 3D package... I'll be doing some more odd animal-human portraits in it... Thanks for looking everybody, your comments were much appreciated... !
solt
great portrait, and a good work with the Sculpt tool.
walross
great work, face is too symetric, but it doesn't care. Did you try to fake SSS - should look even more incredible ;)
Prime
Thanks for viewing solt! @walross, I agree, I should have modeled in some asymmetry I sort of rushed it, the lighting was just one area light and one lamp using Blender's own render engine, I could have used Yafray to simulate SSS or try faking it with lights and materials, but I sort of rushed it :) . Just wanted to get it done... Happens with a lot of the stuff I do, I really should slow down and just enjoy the process...
Ja-Seek
Excellent topology.This is cool work.
Prime
Hi Ja-Seek, glad you liked it thanks for the comment :) .
