For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! Yes, it was this! One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture - a pale blue eye with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me my blood ran cold, and so by degrees, very gradually, I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye for ever. from the short story "The Tell-Tale Heart" by E.A. Poe (1843) while this image is by far not as disgusting as poe's vulture eye (i hope so), i thought instantly at it, when i found this flame. Especially this story fascinates me very much, since i have read it the first time. for me no other story describes the inner conflict of insanity more believable than this one. later in my life i asked myself, what kind of bad acid poe must have had used, to come to these morbid thoughts ;)
