Description

Bacteriorhodopsin is a photosynthetic pigment used by archaea, most notably halobacteria. It acts as a proton pump, i.e. it captures light energy and uses it to move protons across the membrane out of the cell. The resulting proton gradient is subsequently converted into chemical energy. Bacteriorhodopsin is an integral membrane protein. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. CREDITS Protein from the Protein Database. PDB file converted to an obj using VMD 1.8.4 the obj file was 269Mb in size, which is probably why it took 35 mins to load!! Render time 8 mins. Note to any microbiologists out there:- Yes I know it should be PURPLE!!!!!!!!!

nice render. did you know that this is the ONLY known structure available for the whole family of GPCRs. GPCRs are thought to be the point of action of 60% of all pharmacuetical drugs? this model has massive pharmaceutical significance. Models built from this can inform progress! ;o)Tanc
