Description

Sigma 105mm EX DG Macro. So i was planning something rather different from the norm for my 200th upload but i liked this shot so much i decided to post it up instead of waiting for the right time/weather to arrive so i could take a special kind of shot - all will become clear when i finally get it done. The weather today was perfect for this shot of the classic royal mail post box. I see this thing every time i walk down to a mate's house, it was only about a week ago that i realised that if i came back just before sunset, i would get this lovely shadow across it and the wall as the only background to it. So essentially this shot was just waiting for the right time in terms of weather and my temperament to go out and take it :) Hope you like it, i enjoyed the looks i got from passers by as i sat across the road from a post box with a big camera in hand :) Rich PS - the compression seriously kills the detail, especially of the wall, view full if you have the resize override on.

I know you have expressed that you want critical comments only however, I don't have any! I love the rich warmth of the odd coloured stones in the wall and the texture that gives it(yes, full view is much better!) and the first thing that stood out for me when I saw the pic, before reading your comments, was the shadow! It is amazing the way it brings a third dimension to the photo. Great shot Rich and well worth the wait for the right lighting. Congratulations on your 200th post - I'm waiting with baited breath for the "biggy" your working on / planning. xx

Worth waiting for the right light (and temperments important too!) Cracking textures & contrasts. Is this in St.Andrews by any chance?
