That's Cologne Cathedral, surrounded by the "Old Town". I once spent a few hours there, just enough to visit the famous cathedral (they tried to spare it and it only received a few hits in the war), the surrounding old town and a local pub to have one or two "Ksch" and a chat with the always merry and talkative locals. There was something very strange and sad about the Old Town though. Although the city dates back to Roman times, virtually nothing old around the cathedral had survived. Here is an areal picture of the same area before the war: http://www.anicursor.com/colpicoldd.html ; here is one of the the Old Town when it still existed: http://www.anicursor.com/koeln_rothenberg.jpg
