Description
Alright, I'm sure some of you are probably bored of seeing disembodied heads, but I just like to try and keep people informed when I made a bit of headway. I'm sure the whole project will be a long time in the making yet, but this way as I go I can get some feedback.
Okay the helms you'll note are all from the movies except the one marked custom. That one though I like it is a bit weird. I'm doing a new texture for it though, and not brown. Probably a really dark graphite gray color for the one I want to design called Bug Hunter. One of the helmets is a freshly remodeled "duck bill" helm from the second film, made to fit the new part 2 style head. It came out much more accurate I think. The other marked as part 2 is seen at the end of the second film. I don't know what its called but I've seen it referred to as Gort. Though from what I understand Gort is the name of a guy that does Predator maquettes. Anyways, I will be redoing the texture on that one as well I think and I have to edit the mesh slightly. But overall I like it. I honestly think that that helm inspired Amalgamated Dynamics in their creating the "celtic" helm for AVP.
Lastly the AVP helm there is seen during the "flashback" scene, worn by one of the predators fighting aliens on the pyramid. And its the same as the one held by the elder save the lack of runes, carved out front of which would reveal mandibles when worn, and the leather lace that hangs from the top and sides. I will probably do some add ons and make a modified version that will be the elder's helm though.
The heads, ah the heads. I rendered three of each (all rendered in bryce by the way) to show some expression in the mandibles. There are about a dozen morphs for each, some just for mandible twists and things like that. Brow morphs, and jaw morphs amongst others. But since the "masks" use Michaels eyes, you can do whatever you want to his eyes, to creat individual predators so they don't all look the same.
The AVP style head if you notice has a morph as well for the upper teeth to create "tusks" like the elder in AVP. Now the teeth design is nothing like the eldar, but it does give you the option to make your own elder with little trouble.
The fine wrinkles and bumps you see in the face, in the brows and across the "nasal" area and such are just part of the bump maps. The models themselves are fairly smooth. I tried to keep the poly count down a bit as to make loading easier. Though some of the helms have large poly counts, especially the celtic one.
Anyways, just thought I'd fill you guys in on what's going on.
Oh and Sheron, you are right about the faces in AVP being too human. One of the AD guys during their commentary on the film actually said that they attempted to humanize the face. Grr! I don't know why they felt the need to do that. :P
Okay I'm out of breath. :P Enjoy :D

Oh I forgot to mention, that funny looking thing with the stylized facehugger on it is a belt buckle for the predators.

Certainly is wonderful work, truly excellent modelling and texturing, can't wait until D'Day. Maybe Gort refers to the giant robot from 'the day the earth stood still' a classic from the 50s. http://www.firstshowing.net/2007/02/21/the-day-the-earth-stood-still-being-remade-for-2008/
