Description

Good Morning All *S* Today's image title was inspired by The Rite of Spring (Le Sacre de Printemps) by neo-classical composer Igor Stravinsky (1882 - 1971). If you're interested in finding out more about the ballet, read on, if not just hop n skip on down :o) For all you folks who like Classical music, I highly recommend giving this a listen...it's really different. Stravinsky's music is an absolutely brilliant component of the ballet, which opens in a wondrous evocation of the first promise of Spring and concludes in vicious human sacrifice. The score ranges from a plaintive folk tune to huge, pounding blows, from placid reverie to grating dissonance, and from bounding grace to irregular metric fragmentation. Stravinsky didn't set out to destroy tradition, but his jagged rhythms, wild harmonies and violent dynamics sidestepped the predicament of tonality and pushed music into a new dimension. In the process, he gave birth to so much of the music of our time. Stravinsky's music is harmonically adventurous, with an emphasis on dissonance used for its own sake. Rhythmically, it is similarly harsh, with a number of sections having constantly changing time signatures and unpredictable off-beat accents. The technique that he employs is often characterized as primitivism. Excerpts were included in Walt Disney's "Fantasia." Ok, admittedly, this image doesn't have much at all to do with the ballet,(just borrowed the title,) but I'm sure you all can deduce the intrinsic meaning here...after all, it is officially Spring today :o) Wishing everyone a most Blessed Ostara and Joyous Vernal Equinox !!! ~ Love & Hugs ~ * Mina * Brush Credits: http://www.annikavonholdt.com

Like the colours and the eyes in the background. And the figures, lost in a dreaming mist. The BBC produced The Rites Ballet recently; can't remember excatly when - it may have been a programme about Stravinsky; but it was fascinating. Though I tend to think of dinosaurs when I hear it (blame Uncle Walt).

The most beautiful of colors, Dear Mina. 'The Rite' is one of my favs and am going to listen to it ASAP, now that you mention it! The face and pose of the character on the right is especially beautiful. Always, right on target, Sweet Lady.

Gorgeous piece. I think the name fits even if it has nothing to do with ballet, but everything to do with spring. Excellent work. Bunny

The subtitle of the Stravinsky piece suggested "pictures from pagan Russia." Beautiful image dear Mina well in keeping with the contemporary Matisse painting inspired by Stravinsky, "Dances of the Young Girls." Beautiful and in the spirit of the season. Happy Equinox and big Hugs! *****

Wonderful Lavender Mina, just right for Spring. Great image and joyous celebration. (there is the "other fantasia" as well, although I don't think it was what Disney intended!) Blessed Ostara to you and yours! Hugz :)
