Description

This last fall I was on a trip ot the Oklahoma Wild Life Refuge near Lawton Oklahoma. While there we went on a tour of the portected area of the park. This is an area that is generally off limits to the public unless your with guides and on a bus tour. While on the tour we came upon a heard of Buffalo standing in and crossing the road. The guides stoped the bus and told us we could get out and look but not to get to close. I moved to the head of the bus and about 10 yards from it snapping shots of the Bison as they moved. I guess the Alpha Bull thought that was to close and moved in slowly to sniff me out. We started a gracefull dance he and I. He would move a little to the right while I moved a little to the left and back. I was sure to maintain a level measure of distance between us and stayed low in a position of submission. I let him know he was in charge. At one point we were withen 20 yards or so of each other. Finding me not a threat (or boring) he snorted to his minions and they slowly headed off. I ended up taking about 25 to 30 shots during our exchange. This is one of my favorites. I have a copy of this one printed and mounted into a 30 x 40 sofa print hanging in my living room (but not above the sofa ;)

first thing I thought of was Oklahoma. excellent capture and far better a picture than his head mounted. there are many up around Claremore on the Will Rodgers former home-actually the new home of his old home as it was moved to avoid being flooded by a new lake
