Description
Although I've used MAX for a couple of years this is my first render for output. I've used it for modeling and tweaking but then I've always returned to Bryce or Poser, the things I am familiar with, for the final lighting, texturing and render. I thought it was about time to explore MAX a little more deeply.
First things first: the sugar bowl and the lid were modeled by a wonderful Italian artist by the name of Renzo del Fabbro. He is also responsible for the flower motif that adorn them. The silver milk pitcher was modelled by someone other than me. Unfortuanely, I have lost his/her name and can't give him the credit he rightly deserves. I have performed major surgery on the model and I doubt that she would recognize it as hers, and I am sure she wouldn't recognize the texture. Even so, I still believe it belong more to him/her than it does to me.
Anyway, here it is. I wanted to get the feeling of morning with light flooding the counter top. Realism was also a goal. Although it is just a start, I am pleased with the way it turned out.
I always aprreciate your comments. Please feel free to do so.

The metal materials are really great, especially on the spoon and the milk pitcher. How did you atchieve this effect? I also like the textures on teh apples and on the counter top. The lighting is also well done. Keep it up, you have a rather nice image so far, I can't wait to see the completed version.

Firstly, I like the image. If I had to suggest anything, I would say that the objects on the countertop seem to be a little to randomly placed. Maybe this is because I am an anal-compulsive neat freak but I don't think that you would arrange these things like this when placing them on the counter. Secondly, the spoon seems to be floating slightly on the counter. Some shadows might help this. All in all, I love the modeling and the render is great. I hope I wasn't sounding too critical because I really do think it's a great image. Bravo!

X, Dan Thanks for the kind words. The metal material is a plain old metal material with a JPG used as a reflection map. Otherwise it is quite ordinary. If you want the specific settings let me know and I will get them to you. No problem for me to do that. Dan, I don't mind at all your comments. At least they were thoughtful and see nothing but the best of intentions in your saying them. If anything I am grateful. I kind of know what you are saying while at the same time disagreeing somewhat. I was trying to get a casal, random look, as if some one left the counter top out of order and was soon to catch hell when his wife got home;) Although the composition isn't weak, in my opinion, I can't say it is stiking in any way. I played with it but it was a zero sum game. I would strngthen one area and it would subrtact from another. Maybe this lack of a striking composition is what you are refering to when you see 'randomness'. If it's really the randomness you are objecting to then I would disagre. I am just the opposite of you, not a neat freak, and symmetry, or things that are made to look too orderly are slightly disturbing to me. Oh one more thing, I agree with you about the spoon. I noticed that all the time I was working on it. For the life of me I could not get it to cast a strong shadow and therby anchor it to the counter top. Strangest thing. Some things I still have to learn, I see. Thank you both for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.
