Description
In the midst of square miles of lava, I stepped across this crack and saw a fern growing. The crack is maybe two hands wide and a meter deep. This fern will do its best to start creating soil, which will allow other life to get a foothold. Once the lava is broken down, it makes very rich soil, so in the end the eruption is a good thing.
