Description

This Rainbow Lorikeet is aptly names, and has quite amazing colours and perhaps this is truly where a picture is better than a thousand words.. The intense colours have patches of emerald green, orange midnight blue, dull blue, ruby red, lemon yellow, purple, violet greenish grey. Surprisingly enough this colourful bird can be hard sometimes to pick out in its natural habitat.. They are a small bird generally 11 to 12 inches long, weighing 120 to 140 grams on average females are generally a bit smaller and adolescents have duller markings They are said to live over 20 years in the wild Their vocalisation is varied from "screeching" in flight to "chatting" during feeding.. They have adapted a specialized tongue to feed on flowers and fruit, as they dont have a gizzard to crunch up seeds.. My apologies for not being around so much to comment as usual, family problems and such has taken time to resolve.. All with a happy outcome I am glad to say.. So G'day to you all mates !!

Excellent capture, nice POV & DOF, these birds make excellent pets although they become a one person bird as they tend to be quite Jealous, we feed them in our backyard & have various native plants for them to feed on, one downfall, get 4 or more together & the noise is incrediable. Stuart
