Description

Well, it's Pluto retro today, and while that in itself may not be significant given the frequency with which it happens, while it's stationing---(getting ready to go retro,) things can get rather intense. Someone is always there to turn the volume up on things and situations until they explode...sometimes rather spectacularly. It tends to be a time of loss and transformation. So watch your step---stay out of the way of those with their hands on the volume and see what you can find floating around your psyche, art wise, that is... ;)...sorry...it's the day job. :D This is Persephone pleading with Hades (aka Pluto), the god of the dead and ruler of the nether world, which is referred to as the domain of Hades or, sometimes as Hades alone. He is the son of Cronus and Rhea. When the three sons of Cronus divided the world among each other, Hades was given the underworld, while his brothers Zeus and Poseidon took the upperworld and the sea respectively. Hades abducted his bride Persephone from the upperworld, but Zeus ordered him to release her back into the care of her mother Demeter. However, before she left he gave her a pomegranate and when she ate of it, it bound her to the underworld forever, where she spends time each year with her husband before returning to the earth in the spring. Beautiful! And I love this story so much, I once told it to my son when he was a child to show him what the old greeks (forget about roman gods, LOL, they are one-dimensional) thought was an explanition for the seasons. We know better now - but how much more romantic is this old legend!
