Description

My Grandfather, affectionatly called Grandy, always said he could only relate to women under 6 and over 60. He was the best Grandy any little girl could wish for and that didn't alter as I grew up. He had a wonderful sense of humour and died on April fools day which was the perfect day for him lol. This was 17 years ago today, most years it is gone before I realize as we are usually gearing up for Mikayla's birthday on the 11th but someone mentioned it today and it brought back many memories I was in England when he died and wasn't notified until after the funeral, this still irks me as I wasn't given the chance to decide whether or not to return home. I don't know what I would have decided but it would have been nice to be the one making that decision It was also the day my grandmother's world came to an end, she had been married to him since she was 15 (she always lied to people about her age so the wouldn't think it was a shotgun wedding) All she wanted after that was to be with Grandy but it took more than 13 years for her body to grant her wish. But that was 13 years I was grateful for as she got to meet and love my kids and all the great grandkids that followed. A while after Grandy died I had a dream that still brings me comfort. I came around a corner and there he was. I told him to come we had to go now. His reply was that he couldn't come with me he had come to say goodbye. We hugged and talked then I left. It was out of context with the rest of the dream. It may have been just my subconscious giving me the peace I needed but to me it was my chance to say goodbye. enough from me keep smiling Chris :o)

For someone who was always full of laughter to leave us on April Fools day, that seems right somehow. :) Your story is very much like mine. I heard about my Grandfathers passing from a third party and 3 weeks after it had happened and yes, it upset me to learn of it so late. My Grandmother also was married at 15 and died 14 years after her husband had passed. My favorite memories of them were the interactions between them, he soooo much liked to pester her and she soooo much liked to put on that he bothered her, but there was always a little smile at the corner of her mouth, even while complaining about him. Hugs. :)

That's such a beautiful thing you write, a wonderful tribute. I really never knew my grandparents. I do recall that my grandmother on my mom's side was very badly crippled with arthritis and in constant pain. There were always a trace of tears in her eyes, and always a smile on her face. Who can ever know what memories we leave behind. I am glad you got to say good bye to your grandfather. Thanks for sharing this. :O)

The only grand parent I knew was my grand mother on my father's side. she would always say "poor baby" in spanish (she never spoke a word of english) and feed me redbeans. We would watch The Tonight Show with Johny Carson together since she could not go to sleep early like she wanted. She passed on in a hospital with me and one of her daughters by her side while everyone else was making their way to the hospital as fast as they could. This was extremely hard for me to do but I did with tears running down my face like a little boy though I was very grown by then, and I am ever so thankful that I could be there when she needed someone. Enough about me and I love this image. Be well.
