Yes, it's true. On the internet, I'm a rather dull, mild-mannered digital artist, but in real life, I am actually Superfrog.
"Faster than a speeding dragonfly, stronger than a flathead catfish. Able to leap ten hungry alligators in a single bound. Look! Out in the swamp! It's a bird. It's a boat. It's Superfrog!"

For me, ideas are like butterflies that are flittering around by the dozens. Just grab one and render it, then move on to the next.
BIO:
I began 3D art with Bryce 3 in April 1999. Before that I played with various 2D styles and techniques. Back in the mid-70's and 80's, I worked in metal sculpture and had a line of "frog prints" selling in stores all over Southern California and Arizona. I have been in art in some capacity since childhood. Since the computer came along, I 've pr3etty much lost touch with brushes, pens and pencils which I regret.

Here's another relevant quote, this one from Benjamin Franklin: "There was never a good war or a bad peace.". I'm optimistic that sometime in the future the human race will evolve beyond waging war, but I doubt that it will be in my lifetime. A very strong, iconic image. The smoggy sky is an effective touch - as the same greedy & power hungry folks who are responsible for our wars are also responsible for continuing to pollute our planet...

We don't learn. Back during prohibition, the price of alcohol sky-rocketed and the black market filled the demand. Putting major money into the hands of gangs and creating street warfare over turfs. Sound familiar? We got smart and eleminated prohibition, thus picking the lesser of two evils. We are doing the exact same thing today with drugs. A few of which don't deserve such severe rough handling on the part of law enforcement and laws in general. Again, we don't learn by our mistakes. So girls sell their bodies and babies. Others mug and sometimes kill unwary strangers. All to buy 25 cents worth of drugs with a street value of $100. I just don't understand. Actually, I do.. I just don't agree with the badly formed logic behind all this. Anyway, off my soap box and on to Cheers for a really fantastic render Dave. Big thumbs up from Dave :^)

nice update - I too remember that time, and I feel lucky since I came up for the draft lottery as number 350 so never got called up, happily at Purdue. The soldier's uniform looks modern, and the buildings do look like Purdue red-brick! excellent one.

I remember the image you refer to. Good image, artistic and well spoken.

I think davidoblad, above, just about covered everything I wanted to say. I really like this one; and it truly brought back a lot of memories. I do think it is ironic--not to mention tragic--that our present administration deliberately cultivates an ignorance of history. After Vietnam, we said never again and yet it didn't take a rocket scientist to see that pulling down any strong leader, however dispicable, would lead to civil war. In the future, any candidate for President ought to be asked one first question: How do you feel about history? If they hem and haw, or say something like "Never bother with it." "It's boring!" etc. they should be instantly eliminated as a candidate. Democracy only works as long as the voters keep themselves conscientiously informed. Today, we are so self-indulgent and irresponsible that we don't even keep ourselves informed about current events, let alone studying the past. So, we probably deserve Bush and his ilk, but does the rest of the world? America would probably do better by instituting some sort of national presidential draft. I doubt we'd do worse. Grin. Not only that, but.... Oh, I see my five minutes on the soap box are up. Got to get off for the next person in line.

I think that Getty has the image somewhere. There's another quote, I don't remember who by--"Even if you don't take an interest in politics, politics will surely take an interest in you." In this upcoming election, pay attention to which candidate understands the Constitution--so far at least three of them have flunked as far as I am concerned regarding freedom of speech and habeas corpus--one candidate even said that "the Presidents's (non-existent in fact) ability to jail a citizen without a trial should be used rarely" Even more shocking, the reporter didn't call him on the spot on it. I yield the remainder of my soapbox time to the next commenter;-)

Time to spin up that Neil Young Lp and read some R. Crumb Very thought provoking image. Very. Never thought I'd be missing Nixon...

I recall the picture, and admire the intent. I do however disagree with the political implications thus inferred. Thucydides may not have spoken those words as first true-historian, but his setting the tone for why we must learn from it (his example was the folly of following a demagogue like Demosthenes into the Athenian hubris known as the Pelopennesian War). As much as some may wish this to be Vietnam, and the present administration to have another Watergate, FABRICATING evidence to the contrary to suit their "new direction" of instant media revisionism is a crock of cowpies [Yes, I refrain from expletives], the media slant is similiar to those times I grew up in. The Anti-war crowd far left think the 2006 election a mandate; their elected toadies of the Democrat party ran on no platform at all, as I look back, but anything and everything CONTRARY to whatever the other side of the aisle had done or proposed. Now, [To my mixed vast amusement and disdain] they cannot agree on how to proceed, other than to parse words and continue to deny that Iraq is part of a global war on terror, even removing the phrase in legislation! Sorry folks, we're at war with an enemy we have historically & repeatedly have forgotten that believes he is better off in the afterlife the more of us he kills. That's his undenailable reality, and his justification for barbaity, butchery, bombings, and shootings of even his fellow Muslims. THATS what's forgotten..thats not what's shown--their barbarity, their willingness to kill women and children who do not believe as they do. WHAT's shown--everything that makes what we're doing look like a waste of time, and that the enemy will win anyway. "WARS," dear viewers, as was said in a movie "13th Warrior", based on the Book 'Eaters of the Dead", (based on the Arab historian who journeyed into Europe among the Vikings in the 9th century), ARE WON in the WILL." Lose the will to fight, or resist = Lose the war. For the artist: My father served with you, two tours in the same Navy sir; USS Oriskany & USS Forrestal while we were housed in Hawaii (1966-68). Kent State was a tragedy, and no less shocking than the South Vietnamese Police chief blowing a Viet Cong's brains out in 1968. America, aided by the media, and the Democrat majority, Lost the will to fight, and defunded the war. I also recall the fall of Saigon's pictures, and the lesson of a history some have also forgotten. Well rendered btw! 5 stars. SSG Daniel W. Hammersley--aka on these boards, 'Da Rotter' ;)

I looked at your image and just loved it.... Then I read your words and loved it even more. Brovo on the texture, lighting, and poses. I love how he seems to be ignoring her.

"Four dead in Ohio"...awesome song....and an equally awesome image and thoughts!

Very nicely done!....I too was in HS when Kent State happened....and not too long after that I was also in the Navy stationed on the USS McCandless out of Norfolk. I joined the Navy as the lesser of 3 evils (the Army and the Marines were hot on my heels to get me inlisted with them).

I, too, was in Michigan at the time of the Kent State shootings. But, at a local, community college. One of my best friends at college came from the Kent State, Ohio area and knew many people there. Excellent artwork and subject! My best to you and yours, T.P.

I too remember that image. Thank you for re-creating it! How soon some of us forget, others are just too young. As Santayana also said: "The youth who do not weep are savages. The old who do not laugh are fools." Some guy, that Santayana!

I also love the picture! great work.
