Description

The news from Vancouver are amazing: a mysterious woman is able to pass through the walls and to control the matter like a comic super-hero. They call her "Phantomgirl" but who hides herself behind that mask? Solve this mystery and you could win a Pulitzer prize... DAZ V4 with Sapphire Fox Hair by Quarker. BasicWear and catsuit by Daz. Mask by lilflame. Keilani face morph by me created with the TDMT script by Cage & Spanky. Background by www.freedigitalphotos.net (resized and blurred), used with written permission. Two consecutive renders with some objects turned alternatively visible and invisible, then joined in Paint Shop Pro 9. Some problems with the eyes (it's hard to place exactly the BlackEyes on the V4 face) and with the nose (remains of an odd morph smoothed with the morphing tool, but non completely removed). Anyway for a quickie (two, actually) I am satisfied enough. In the thumbnail you can see one of the two original images. Maybe if you are interested I'll post the whole portrait of Keilani without mask.

Lovely character, interesting story. One thing puzzles me, though: a catsuit is very thin, skin thin, so how can it be that her chin in catsuit is visibly bigger than the original?

Very nice portrait. =) I would have to venture forth though that the seam between the two images feels very distracting to me. I think it might work better if it blended more between the two going back and forth rather than just a straight line down the middle. I think as Rutra mentioned above, the chin seems off, and with the hair just being there and then being gone...I notice these things first (just how my brain works) and then everything else after that. Don't know how to link from inside comments, but I have a two-sided portrait I did in my gallery- "Like Night & Day" -with two halves of the same face. I don't think you need to go as crazy on the "seam" part as I did, but giving that area some blending of some sort might lessen the distraction, not sure how to fix the hair/no hair part, but with the right joining "line" it may help make it less noticable that way.

A very interesting concept. I see what you mean about the eyes. Its a shame :( When I first looked at it I wondered about the difference in the chin positions - but the nose and eyes look to be in the right position. But perhaps the masked side needs to be moved up fractionally?

Along with what has already mentioned, I would suggest moving the camera in any direction to get her out of dead center, unless you're going for something like a comic book cover (and maybe even then), and maybe give her head a little turn, give the portrait a little spirit. The lighting of the character could also stand to be changed a bit, we see a strong light straight into her face and a bit to her left, but the background seems to be lit from above. Regarding the eyes, it looks to me as if you should check some of the materials settings in Materials room; I think you might want to try setting EyeTear to be completely invisible. The Blackeyes prop could probably be a bit smaller and fit in the eye socket better, maybe just reduce X scale.

From my point of view, the philosophy behind this image is very good! Its a pity that the crossover between the two halfs of the head isnt blurred. If I had this probleme, I certainly had draped the hairs over the full head and the mask would showen only on the face.

It's a good shot, though I've never been a fan of full head masks. Think 'Spiderwoman' and you get the type of mask I like. The character looks impressive and exotic.

I like the concept. You might consider treating the background differently in the two halves -- for example, darkening it on the super-hero side.

I seem to have an issue with the top of head, and bottom of head not being in alignment with the masked side. I'm not exactly sure of how it ended with that juxtoposition. Hrm.

Thanks to all for your comments! I am very grateful to you! The "front" perspective with the hard seam is intentional: it's an effect I have seen in many Japanese manga and anime (particularly the Grendizer main titles). Believe it or not, the mask is NOT displaced. The idea for the upper part is that her hair is pushed down when Keilani wears the mask: I have checked the space between mask and scalp and it is enough. For the lower par, the reason is that the mask is NOT simply a morbid balaclava. In my novels, it's made of plastic (pieces of an old style hockey mask) then covered with lycra fabric. So the chin has a certain thickness. I have increased the Y-scale a bit just to recreate this effect. But maybe graphically it's not so good as I thought.

The concept is excellent but I would have spent some time ensuring the masked and unmasked images lined up better. Ignoring the hair, the chin area is quite a way out.
