Description
Work in progress. The image is just about done, but it seems to be missing something to give it a finished feel. I can't exactly put my finger on it.
The usual p6, and photoshop with a lot of hand painting. V3 MFD, and avalon barge.

Wow, this is a wonderful image! The colors and textures are so rich. I really love it. The only thing that, IMVHO, is not on the same quality level is the background. It seems a bit confusing and low-rez. Another small thing, but may just be me, is that the hair on the right side doesn't seem to be the same texture as on the left. Anyway, lovely.

What a lovely image this is going to be. I do agree about the background. I actually had to think was she supposed to be lieing down or leaning against a wall. Its difficult to say which - although I guess the oars should ahve given a clue :)

you have an interesting take on a classic figure. after doing a bit of research, i have a few comments and questions. first, i have to say that i think the flowing clothes are both beautiful and appropriate to the subject. the emotion on her face matches her sad fate. this is an interesting camera angle and viewing distance for this subject, and much more personal than the pre-raphaelite treatments. the brocade pattern you've chosen is lovely, and looks like soft velvet. my first question is about clothing. her source poem emphasizes her white clothes, and the paintings show her in a white dress. out of curiosity, what prompted you to go with golds? also, i'm not sure what's happening with her hair, or her clothes to the right. is there a drop between where her head rests and the seat? the darkness looks like a drop, but nothing sags or drapes into it. compared to the clothes and hair, the texture of the boat looks a little jarringly photographic and low resolution (especially the handle of the oar in the upper left). maybe some postwork to soften it's appearance would integrate it with the figure more. i assume you'll do more with the hair since this is a w.i.p., but i'll still say that the bangs and odd puff in the back are the most in need of detail, shading and highlights. her hair is also the most pre-raphaelite aspect of her. while her dress seems much more ornate than their classical ideal (which makes the work unique), you caught the very same red tones they used. i think her skin looks very soft and pale, which fits the theme well. it's a lovely image, and i'm anticipating it becoming even more beautiful.

I may redo this again........ sadly, the more i look at it, the more i dont quite entirely like it and am spurred by the critique to do something MUCH better. I love the figure of the lady of shallot, and would like to do her immense justice.

nicely done but the background confuses me. Either clarify it or darken it so it doesn't make such a strong presence.

Comments already said. :) But nevertheless, I rather like it. If you can improve on this basic idea, the result could be mindblowing. :)

The hair and character are lovely :) But, to me, the dress has sort of a modern feel to it. More like cos-play than a true period piece.

I find nothing to critique. I love the colors in this and the entire scene. Gorgeous!

Stunning! So detailled! Nothing to say!

Colors seem perfect to me. Just separe her more from the background and it will be perfect. Her expression makes her alive.

Lovely inmage! I like her hair, and the brocade dress looks ALMOST authentic (the fold above the folded left knee still need a bit of adjusting). And the right arm, while I realize that it's partially hidden by some knobby object, actully looks like it's sinking into the woodwork. But the hair and dress, not to mention the girl herself, are just fantastic! I've been SOOOOOOOOO busy with my PosetteV3 project, that I've gotten WAYYYYY behind in my comments. This is very good! DO keep up the good work. DPH

I don't know the story, just have heard said of the lady, but I like the piccie, the richness of the colours is lovely.' The background is a bit noisy for me & detracts me from the character, & I agree re the hair on the left side

Wonderfull work wwhith great dynamic. The hair on the left side is one point. The other , her dress folds looks wrong to me.

I think I have to agree that the background sort of detracts from the character, but she is lovely! I would maybe put some lowlights in her hair to give it some depth (along with the highlights of course). God, I hate being a critic since I have so much to learn, but these are the things I would like to see changed. She's really beautiful!!

I love that warm swath of cloth stretching out behind her, that's super smoothly done. I see a lot of lines flowing bottom left -> top right, but that one part of her hair going crosswise - it's jaywalking :) Her left arm also seems to be clipping through the panel of wood behind her back. Lovely face and expression, and of course I'm stupefied by anything with red hair.

I agree with Skydancer! When you are finished with this your image is going to be incredible. I also think the way the hair flows and this dress is really beautiful. 5+++...Shannon ;}
