Description

"You can't trust water: Even a straight stick turns crooked in it." ~ W C Fields

On my recent trip, I came across this stump of an old tree sticking out of the lake water. I was fortunate that the water was placid, reflecting the cloudy sky above. I cannot go back and reshoot it, but any constructive insights would be appreciated on how I could have improved upon this. This was about as high up over it as I could get, and I did adjust the exposure capture the sparse highlights without totally loosing the shadow detail. I posted a few photos from my trip HERE if anyone is interested. Happy Hump Day! -----

I think it works quite well - glad you shot for the highlights here the stick detail is what makes the shot :) Reminds me of a photograph I will one day take - given I can find the right place and time ;)

This shot shows what is up there by reflected back on a water. Great detail on a stick!

Up periscope! Or is that a cobra perusing the scene? Very well done, although, because of the contrast in lighting and texture, the stump appears to be floating in mid air, superimposed against the dark clouds.

I like it just the way it is! But then of course I like things a bit surrealistic :) Wonderful!

This is a great shot with the clouds and the reflection. Makes a small twig into a work of art. Excellent.

Terrific effect, the clouds on that mirror surface. I think the only thing which pulls this disorienting image back to reality is that little waterline around the stick. Fantastic!

Seeing the thumb I thought you took a picture of a stick being thrown into the air. Saw that I was wrong, but like the image very much "anyway".

I suppose you could lift the detail in the reflection of the stick, or clone it in, but to be honest, it's hard to see anything wrong with this!
