The landing team had nearly missed the cave, since sensors did not indicate any life forms present. However a low level reading of life energy prompted them to take a look. At last they had found them, the strange circular devices that had been appearing all over the universe. The cave was filled with hundreds of them, stacked up and leaning against the walls. But who was making them, and storing them in this cave? Whoever the Maker was, he was gone now, presumably installing the mysterious devices somewhere. The problem was what to do now? If they set up an outpost in the cave to catch the Maker, would he sense they were there and abandon the cave? It was important to find out the purpose of the devices. Were they portals of some sort? A work of art? All mankind knew was that they were appearing randomly, here and there, affixed to the wall. People were drawn to them, and felt an irresistible urge to pose in front of them.
