With heavy heart and ice caked on her face, she looked on as the blaze grew. The flames were not of this world. The Rimefire had started when the flames hit the body of her old teacher, her guardian, her mother. Edda was the last of the Rimefire Witches, a hunted and hounded cult, long since shattered and lost to legend. As Paleurevallan Elves went, she had outlived most. At the age of nearly 900 years, she finally just wore out. Or maybe it was something else. Sylgja had learned over the decades of her apprenticeship that old folks tend to hang around even though they should be dead, waiting for that one event that marks a success,

Interesting setting. Interseting character assembly. At first glance it looked like someone in their nightgown and robe going to have a snowball fight. I'm glad I stopped to read your dissertation. Very good! (But the image could've used some postwork footprints in the snow.)
