Description

So wow, it's been almost a YEAR since I've posted on here! My goodness. I've taken, what seems, like a bazillion photos since I last posted... so I better get posting again! Taken at NAS Point Mugu Airshow 2007. For more photos, visit http://www.warbird-photos.com ----------------------------------------------- The most advanced fighter to just enter service, the Lockheed F-22A Raptor made it's first flight September of 1997, and was declared Initial Operational Capability [IOC] in December 2005. Until recently, the Raptor was limited to just fly-bys at military airshows and aerial events. 2007 marks the formation of the F-22 Raptor demonstration team which has been traveling to various military base airshows around the country. NAS Point Mugu Airshow 2007 marked the first Sourthern California public demonstration of the F-22 Raptor demo team. Quite the demonstration, it recieved so much praise both days of the Airshow that the demonstration team performed the demonstration twice each day. NAS Point Mugu is located close to the California coast, in fact much of the base leads up to the ventura beaches. As such for the area, there is a high amount of moisture in the air and often most mornings result in zero visibility because of heavy fogs. Once the fog has burned off, the moisture still lingers in the air. During the F-22 Raptor's demonstration, pressure of the air being disrupted by the F-22 Raptor's unique shape caused for the formation of vapor, or clouds, in the high pressure areas on certain manuvers. In this photo, the Raptor is going from a high speed pass to an almost instantanious vertical climb, causing heavy disruption and pressure as the air passes over the fuselage, resulting in heavy vapor. Shot with a Canon EOS 5D DSLR Camera (12mp). Lens was a Canon 100-400mm USM IS F4.5L Series.

Awesome! I know the climb you speak of- back at SAC in omaha 79 airshow I had flightline position- the Vulcan was apt to swing to a verticle like that and it was sooooo loud when it did. Excellent shot!

Glad to see you again, it has been TOO long. What a way to come back, damn! This looks like a steaming UFO. These are amazing aircraft, and I just read in Popular Science about an even more exotic warplane on the books...

I use to play an online game of the F22 for a long time,.The specs for flying were done by Lockheed MArtin. The makers of the game Nova Logic said flying in the game was like flying a real one as for turning and everything it did. My sqaud actually won 1st place in compitition we were the NightHawks. Awesome shot
