Description

The Mercury Capsule John Glenn took into orbit back in Feb. 20, 1962. Maybe I'll make a Cape Canaveral scene soon... Made the capsule in 3ds Max. Rendered in Vue 6I using the Camera Backdrop option. Enjoy and comments welcomed.

Awesome work on the capsule; I'm a huge fan of the early years of the space programs and Mercury in particular, so I love this pic :) The composition is great too; only thing is I think it's flying backwards? or at least I'm assuming it's going left to right, and maybe you intended it to be going right to left instead? or maybe I'm just overthinking it, heh :) Either way, I love it and I look forward to more

Nice looking model! The Cape Canaveral scene sounds like it would be really cool! Go for it if you get the chance!

theprojectionist: There is no way you have THIS model. I made this myself for this render specifically and I do not offer these meshes for download. If you have a similar mesh, it may be due to the fact it's a historical object and any good modeller would follow the same reference images I used. I hope you aren't implying that I am taking credit for someone else's work. I would take great offense to that.

Very nicely done, the lighting and shadows (on the boosterpack) is realistic. Texturing is also spot on... was the capsule seen from one of your spaceships, ala Roswell?

I drew this image with a #2 pencil on my notebook cover while sitting at my desk when Colonel Glenns A.O.K. echoed from a television somewhere outside of class. Your interpretation here is a delight to view once again. Excellent!

Stardust, this isn't Sci-FICTION, this is Fact. I remnember this well, I was in elementary school, and we gathered in the lunchroom and watched this on a black and white screen. To this day I cringe when I hear the phrase "History in the Making" LOL. We have never seen this in real life, but I can be sure this is spot on. Well Done, well done indeed. Oh, and 1358? This isn't a Capsule, this is a Spacecraft, a capsule is what you take when you have a cold. LOL. One small niggly. In real life one of the retro rocket straps should be loose, not attached. That is why they brought Col. Glenn USMC down after only three orbits. They were afraid his heatshield was loose. Another btw, Ed Harris did a great job playing Col. Glenn USMC in "THE RIGHT STUFF". See the movie.
