My father had bought a 1948 Mercury that was pea-green in color, and he painted it all shiny black. That's what I rode to grammar school in. Now that was style. I love the old cars from this era.

Oh yes, yes, yes, I owned a 49 Chevy and this is definitely not a 49 Chevy. It is definitely a 1951 or later version. The rear fenders on the 1949 were more sloped and streamlined. In any event, nice POV and paint job. Incidentally, why were you concerned about the police? Had it broken down, been vandalized, abandoned.....?
