Description

The appearance of Bodiam Castle built in 1385, is exactly how most people imagine a medieval castle should look like, with its square of walls, a round tower at each corner, and a square tower midway along each wall, entirely surrounded by a moat. That it looks so perfect and picturesque may not be by accident for many people have debated whether the castle was really built as a defensive fortress or as an elaborate stately home. Probably the excuse towards the end of the 100 years war.. Now owned by the National Trust we can now enjoy this place for future years..

I've seen this castle before on rendo, and i remember reading then that the moat is raised by a bank, so all the invaders needed to do was cut into the bank and hey presto a drained moat... Nicely lit in at sunset (?) and an effective compo :)

Oh yes, indeed how we imagine the perfect castle of fairy tales to look. Excellent sunset lighting with wonderful reflections in the moat. Great POV. Perfect capture. xx

Looks like you took it in the last minutes of daylight (or perhaps first few minutes?). Either way, the sun on the horizon is quite effective lighting.

It's places like this that make Europe such a great place for us colonials to visit. Superb capture. (On the humorous side: Swamp Castle from Monty Python and The Holy Grail?)

A fantastic castle photo. The reflection in the water is wonderful. Makes me think of knights and ladies in the King Arthur era.
