Description

When we visited the Hmong village people in Laos it was such an amazing experience. Because Laos is not on the usual tourist route as yet, the people were as curious about us as we were about them. They were so friendly and wanted their pictures to be taken. This elderly woman just sat there and looked straight down my camera lens. How could I resist!!!

Wonderful capture, Eileen. You are right, we Europeans really can learn something there...especially hospitality (no offense ;-)

awesome portrait and capture. I seen many old ladies like this in the Filipines. where I always stayed in a small city in a province not far from Manila there was a huge very old home. everyday when I would walk to town proper to take in the sights, I would wave at an old lady in a window of the house.2 blocks away I would look back and she would still be waving at me

Isn't she wonderful? You always bring out the best in people! The Hmong I knew in Seattle were friendly but more reserved, I think they were adjusting to a very different life and climate. Some of the quiltwork the women did was gorgeous--I saw one piece that was made as an autobiography, showing how she had left Laos and come to the US-- just amazing and very moving too.

This is a line from Victor Chan's book.. "The Wisdom of Forgiveness", written with and about the Dali Lama, but I think it is appropriate of many Eastern cultures.. "...It struck me that he and his countrymen practiced a very simple religion- they practiced being kind to one another." Interesting concept... huh? wonderful picture
