Just a little test I did at work to see how close I could get to a photo. I am proud of it, but something is wrong, still looks very computery, I think its maybe the lighting, any ideas ???

The texture on the apples is fantastic. The tabletop is too smooth, though--it's the only thing that really looks "computery" to me. And maybe a higher gloss on the apples? This is great work.

I think maybe some back lighting or a radiosity rendering. Fantastic apple textures.

Nice one mate, very fruity indeed

You know... I almost can't tell that this is a rendering. Looks like real apples to me. Excellent work. [Delete]

Nice going. I agree about a bit futher on the glossy slider. :))

For me it looks excellent, damn cool textures! ThanX! ~{o;)

Looks great... try moving your light a bit more off-axis, creating a bit more modeling. I did a similar image a while back:(http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=131028&Start=1&Artist=Cinema1954&ByArtist=Yes); I used one area light about 45 degrees off the camera axis.

Not too sure about the one with the red bits, but the greens ones are really well done. Other than that, a bit of tinkering with the lighting will probably get you the effect you're after.

radiosity, check, depth of field check, um, I assume youve tried it with the radiosity up more but i think it still might be part of the solution. the shadows are way to "black" and egad this is a gross light situation. it looks like a flash photograph off apples. the apples are pretty damn good i give them a 9.7 Maybe if you can make/find a good wood texture too, its taking up 60% of the picture plane. thats asking alot from the shader. yup i say its the shader(esp the bump map)thats making this look "computery". maybe try overlaying the texture, with a good an grainy trasparancy, I'm really in the dark though. Ive dedicated little time to making realistic stills.

The shade of green on the apple could stand to be a little more yellow and slightly less intense. "Granny Smith Green" is such a memorable color that being even a little off could make it register as less than 100 % natural. The red ripening pattern clashes some and could perhaps use yellow and and increase in intensity (less grey tinge.) (But save that red for a russet potato!) I think the placement may be a bit off as well...don't apples ripen on the sides first? (Tops are protected from light by leaves.) The stem is a bit too green and may look woodier with some brown. LOVELY piece of work though. Color comments are meant to be helpful, not picky. Most folks won't consider this color to be off at all, but I think they will register it as a "feel". Outstanding model shapes.

fantastic textures on the apples...and a real good mesh...very close to reality... i agree with the radiosity effect...use it and maybe you will get a much better result.

Thanks to you all for the comments and help, as I type im rendering the same image but with radiosity, more specular on the apples, a nice new wood texture on the table and 45 degrees off the camera axis lights. i'll repost the image soon. Thank you all for the help
