Description
This a bit different to my usual fare but I had promised Meredith Wilson that I would post a picture of this house. Due to repair work being carried out I had been unable to take a picture until a couple of weeks ago but as this next week is the "Danny Boy" Festival in Limavady in N. Ireland I thought now is the time. I have not had much time do do anything else of late as we are all preparing for my Daughters coming wedding.
The small plaque on the wall commemorates the fact that a lady by the name of Jane Ross lived here from 1810 to 1879 and it was she who recorded the folk tune "The Londonderry Air" from listening to the tune as it was played by a Fiddler in the street. The tune is more commonly known as "Danny Boy" which I am sure would be familiar in that guise to most people throughout the world, most certainly where any ex-pats from the Emerald Isle are sure to gather. So I hope that little bit of history is of interest.
I managed to get the shot early before the cars started to park but as you can see the Traffic Warden is already on the prowl!
Please enjoy.

Excellent slice of musical history from the Emerald Isle! Maybe the traffic warden hears the "pipes a callin'" from this lovely old building.

Thanks for sharing this with us, its a great photo. Fascinating read about "The Londonderry Air", and as you say, I too am amongst those who only knew it as "Danny Boy". For me it always reminds me of McGuigan getting into the Ring !
