Description
On the terraces of the Valley de la Colca, just as in the rest of the Peru, the potato is collected by hand...there are more than 1000 kind of potatoes in Peru actually and about 5000 during the inca period !

Potato? Never would have thought about growing them in this mountainous area. And growing them where the cacti grows! With all the rocks in the soil it must be a difficult and hard task, although by the size of that bag I would say it pays off at some point. Marvelous shot!

Ciao my dearest friend Mary!!Superb capture and a excellent shot!!I love really a lot this wonderful and charming place so distant!!I appreciated really a lot the very interesting informations and really very all this fabulous and incredible series! I think that the potato is found in all of the American continent!! or rather the true one to say the potato is original actual of the America and was carried in Europe from Cristoforo Colombo(native of Genoa) together to other vegetables like the tomato, the corn and the tobacco.. and later on also the cocoa.. Therefore I think that it is natural that the potatoes find themselves also in Peru!!Excuse me the long speech!!Ciao my dearest friend Mary!!I wish you a happy day!!A big kiss and a big hug!!

The potato actually originated in the mountainous regions of Peru. There's a fabulous book called "The Botany of Desire" by Michael Pollan. He gives the entire history of potatoes, as well as tulips, apples, and cannabis. (It's truly not as dull as it may sound. I was spellbound!) I like your image very much - thanks for sharing it with us!
