Description

Remember sneaking a peek at your father's Playboy collection? It's been a long time, but it seems the photos looked something like this. Best viewed at full size; the shrinking process really washes out the highlights. 30% Poser, 70% postwork in PhotoShop. If you're a NAPP member there is a great video tutorial for getting this look from a photograph. As always, I really appreciate any comments or critiques.

Yeah, I can remember that..... Good work!..... you got the "look" just right, and you seem to have the postwork down pat.

Wow, great. My only negative criticism is that the outfit doesn't look quite 50s, maybe a bit too goth or S&M, but the fleshtone and body shape are spot on.

That has EXACTLY the same look and feel of the old magazines. Very well done. It filled me with nostalgia of when life was simple... But... I felt something was not 100% right and digged into the deep corners of my memory and I think that the pin-ups of that time used to be mostly smiling, if my memory serves me right. I also think that the hair used to be... sorry, dont know the right word in english... well, not as flat as you made it. Anyway, an excellent image!

Great style to it.. I like the shrunken version without the strong highlights better.. its a little softer.

I agree with many preceding comments: Great style, prefer the "shrunken" colors, hair would be thicker in 1958 (peroxyde and permanent - but I was far too young to observe, then). I wouldn't think of shining back latex or leather for 50s, but I can imagine. I am fascinated by the relaxed strap. It is quite suggestive, but is it realistic? It would imply that the corset is held up either by the breasts or by the hips, and neither would seem appealing to me if I were a woman. But I assume that any discomfort would be more than compensated by the model's fee... PS: Being a Dutchman, could you provide me with a lower part, so that I can pin both parts on my Dutch doors? (No no no, on the INside...) ;-)

it's interesting. i associate this look with an entirely different magazine. it almost looks illustrated to me, and makes me think of the art in old heavy metals. though i will say that the heavy yellow tone is very 70s and early 80s photography. now everything is digital, and besides, harsh, hard and cool is in, so the trend is very blue tones. nice use of color to evoke nostalgia.

love the lighting and colors, she really does look like a pin up gal, but at the same time a drawing! Nice work!

I love the illustrative look but would like to see more life in the facial expression on the model. You could try changing the material on the corset to something more 50s - I'd go for satin or cotton, in cream, pink or scarlet. The pose is great.

I love the washed out colors, the outfit actually (though not the latex) is relatively time appropriate to 1958. (or 50's in general). The hair though is very 1990's. In the 50's a blonde would be "peroxide blonde" in a barrel roll bouffant. Face not relaxed but either wide smile, or in a men's magazine, "bowtie lipped" actually painted on (think lucille ball for a great reference) and BLAZING red. Heavy upper black liner and fake eyelashes.

Technique-wise, completely perfect. Really excellent work getting the original render to the "old print" state. A very tiny nitpick, the back strap of her top gets a bit too thin, but that's nothing. Otehrwise flawless.

I am digging that effect you have put on this render. That effect would look bloody brilliant on a 50's type of poster image as thats what it reminds me of or an old french art deco styled portrait.
