Description

I wrote the software to generate this image. A couple of weeks ago, I was relaxing on the deck out back, enjoying the first rays of spring, eyes closed, listening to soft music. I imagined, what would happen if you had a sphere, and then added six more smaller spheres, one each above, below, left, right, front and back. And then, you repeated the process with each of those spheres, and so on. So I wrote this ray-tracing program to find out. The one on the right matches the description above. The one in the middle is the same, but with that first sphere removed. The one on the left is the same again, but with those first six spheres removed as well. Each of the three structures has a different level of diffusion to their reflective surfaces: the one on the left with none, being perfectly reflective, and increasing to the ones in the middle and on the right.
