This is from the abandoned Milwaukee Road trackage outside Monroe WA.

I once was in Washington state and saw a hippy sitting on one rail of some abandonned track pounding on it quite ferociously with a stone. Just then a school bus came by and I read the name of the school district in that hyphenated transliteration that is setting a native language into Roman letters. My mind conjured up an image of a Native American with his ear to the ground, listening for buffalo hooves, and a later form of a Confederate galvanized soldier with his ear to the track way off somewhere listening to this bizarre telegraph.
