Description

AlooooooHa! Here's a shot I took Sat. of a boogie boarder who overstayed his ride on this wave. As you can see he is engulfed in the wave and it is closing rapidly in front of him. This wave is breaking on a reef which is about a foot deep when the wave sucks up like this. He must "Stop, and pay the toll ahead". Surfers call this the "Reef Dance". He was lucky, and was relatively unscathed after the pounding he took. This was shot approx. 200 yrds. away with my 100-400 tele w/1/4 extender, then cropped in close. Thanks for your time and your kind comments on my previous post. A great week to you all! Aloha~

Ok, your "relatively unscathed" description is kinda scary too. Terrificly awesome capture of dangerous yet compelling power. Your comments help us all understand exactly what we are seeing. =) Thanks~

I'm already tense up viewing this picture. Will he or will he not survive? I'm glad he came out ok. I hate to see you doing your rescue trip again.... Excellent job my friend. Aloha

Wow, what a capture. I immediately thought of that moldy oldie, 'Wipeout', lol. You really nailed this one. Not only does the wave look perfect, but the stop action is dead-on. You rock, Dave!!!Hope you have a fabulous week, too. -M :^) PS- You boogie board with flippers on???? I had no idea. ( I'm a land-lubber meself... ;^P )

That is very lucky for him, I'm sure most wipeouts result in serious injury or death on a 1' deep reef.

Excellent shot, and he's definitely what we tend to call 'in a big hole....'

Wicked action... Takes me back to my youth, and having to nurse a few injuries, but still wonderful fun!!

I remember that, and being pushed down until the wave had passed. Frightening moments that seem like minutes. Great moment you captured here brah! Aloha!

An incredible, dramatic shot. I love how the breaking wave frames him. Your timing on this was amazing.
