Description
Drawn with Wacom and PSP7.
Yesterdays drawing was a cherry-nose cicada from my yard.
Today I decided to do a vacant cicada nymphal case (cicada shell).
A cicada lays eggs in a slit within a branch or twig. These hatch into nymphs and fall to the ground where they burrow into the soil. The nymph of some species stay in the soil for up to 17 years. When it comes out of the soil it sheds its nymphal case. It is now an adult with wings (as seen in my last upload). The adult lives for only a week or two.
This vacant nymphal case was found in a park near our home.
The shiny semi-transparent shell was fun to draw.
Comments, observations or critique welcome.
Hope you enjoy.

How much time do you need for something like that? This is so full of detail just awesome :)

I complete each image within that day. Maybe eight to twelve hours. I make the originals approx 3600 pixels at the largest (this makes them good size to print A3 but small enough my computer doesnt crash constantly). The full size image shows a nice paint quality that is lost in the resizing. ...Di (Hexagonal Mandala)

Exquisitely painted and the detail on the flowers is superb. I miss having the cicadas singing to me here as there don't seem to be so many around. I think we are too far south now.
