Description

Nikon 7900 image. On the one hand, today was a very good day for me but on the other hand it also had a down side. Fortunately, the down side was rather minor while the up side was quite rewarding. The bad news first. Somewhere on my 25 acres of woodland there is a digital camera battery laying on the ground, lol. It is not the first time I got so involved in following the bugs (and getting the next shot) that I did not pay attention to where I put the used battery when I changed to a fresh one. It is the first time I was not able to retrace my steps and thus find the missing battery. Oh well! BTW - I discovered that the price for these Lithium batteries has come down considerably in the past 2 years. The cost was about $50 for the extra one when I first bought this camera. They are under $10 now; so as I said, the down side was minor. I got 2 spares ordered. The upside of the day was that I got a half dozen good shots instead of just one or two. They include a new caterpillar species I found, some muchrooms, some neat foliage, and a little flying insect that looks like he is covered in powdered sugar. Todays posting is of the caterpillar variety, lol. This nifty critter will become an Eight-spotted Forester Moth. This moth is often mistaken as a butterfly because of it's bold patterns and colors. It is a velvety black with several large white spots on the fore wings and orange markings near the head. Hopefully I may be able to get a shot of one eventually. Thanks to all who take the time to comment. Lee

It was your shots of caterpillars that inspired me to go out and try to find one to capture - I did, but I have a long way to go before I reach these standards in quality!! The details are amazingly clear with such perfect composition. Lovely DOF too. Glad to hear you got replacement batteries on order too. Excellent macro shot. xx

Such ferocious appetites for such little creatures. Good focus. I like the gentle colours of background, and the frame tucking under the leaves is a nice finish. Im on my own insect kick at the moment too. ...Di (hexagonal Mandala)
