Description

This is a render using the Vue 6 Infinite PLE so please excuse the logo - nothing I can do about it. This image was created following a tutorial I found in the Vue forum backroom on how to make an ocean in Vue 5 Infinite. I tried it in both the PLE and my Vue 6 Esprit and it does produce some stunning results. I played with the function to come up with the waves. The scene includes 1 procedural terrain, one Poser import figure and a volumetric atmosphere. It was a 6h:32m render using the PLE. The Esprit render of the same scene is still going (it says it's going to be a 33 hour render and I believe it) but I'll post it as soon as it's done. Both renders are done at user setting levels.

Wow. Some of the waves look a little angular but still it's convincing. Can't wait to see the 33 hour results.

The waves look very good, great picture. How many Polys is the scene? Do you use volumetric lighting or radiosity?

I've seen seas like that.... fortunately, I am not particularly susceptable to seasickness. Very good work, but the edges, where the ship meets the water needs to be less sharp, I think. Lou

@bantha - the poly count was pretty low for me, only 750,000 give or take. The atmosphere is volumetric. @archdruid - this was just a render following a tutorial. I know some of the waves are pretty angular but there's absolutely no postwork here. If I'd done some postwork on it I'd have added some spray along the side of the ship to soften the edges. Thanks for the nice comments, everyone. When the 33 hour render is done I'll post it too - with and without postwork.

Hey, don't worry about the logo; it looks great! I'm also glad that other people suffer from long render times. I've gotten a few comments from people thinking that a 1 hr. render was long. On a more critical note, however, the ship deck looks too dark. Try increasing the brightness while keeping the storm appearance.

@DramaKing - the deck looks better in the other render, don't ask me why. It's the same atmosphere as this one but it works a little differently. Still, definitely going to sidegrade to V6i as soon as finances allow. Just the difference in render times makes it worth it plus all the little goodies that go along.

The waves are really stunning, as is the sky. As far as I can see, though, the ship could use some spray around it which should normally occur when it's crashing though the waves like that.
