Hi. My name is Uwe Schmidt and I live in Hannover, Germany. I was born 1965. Since I got twelve I work with computers, it was a hobby and is my job now. I still know how it started here, with Sinclair, Commodore, Apple and Tandy - ages ago. Now we have the Internet and true color graphics - it's unbelievable to see how fast all evolved.
I started Poser in the good old days, when a new Figure named Victoria was about to be released from Zygote and Poser 4 was new Software. I planned to use Poser for a web comic then - well I still plan that, even if many years have passed, I have learned a lot but still not found the time.
I started modeling some years ago, the picture above and in my avatar was the first scene I did completely on my own. It's done in Cinema 6 CE+, everything modeled and textured by myself, it was made to fit the "minimalism" theme of a 2005 round in the now defunct IRTC.ORG. Although it is far from perfect, I still like it very much.
At the moment (early 2008) I still dabble in modeling, although making progress slowly. I use Silo and Cinema for modeling, Poser for content and posing, FireFly, Vue and POVRay for rendering. I still have a lot of unfinished projects here, but I surely am not alone with that.
As you can probably guess from above picture I like to play Go, the asian board game. I started to play it regulary in our local club and try to improve here too. I play as an european 5 kyu at the moment. The board situation on the board above is not one I played - it's taken from one of the rare cases when professional Go players use the 9*9-Board. (usually it's 19*19, for those who don't know the game)
Thank you for having a look here.

You did a good job on the image.. its just like someone whould stand.. The only little thing is the light.. is a bit to dull for a good sundown light.. Some more crisp orange with some darker shadows will make it more interesting Keep it up!

I can't setup lights in Poser. I don't use Poser for render (Vue, Carrara and Bryce are easy to work with - they almost do all the work by themselves :o) The all set looks very good. You got a story beyind, lots of detail and the light effect looks ok. I just have one thing thought. The scene looks to be an outdoor one, while the lights looks to come from the inside. But overall I think you done a good job. Congratulation :o)

Nice image and lighting.. I have to agree with one of the above statement's concerning the lighting coming from inside!! But that is perhap's what you weren't happy with when it came to the lighting!! I know it can be a royal pain trying to get the lighting to look natural and coming from the direction you think you want it some time's..

Arturzhino, the scene is outdoor in sundown, but inside they already have switched the light on. Probably the sunlight is too dark. Bar-Code I started with orange, but it did not look good to me. At the moment, it's a red-orange light with shadows, and a blue one to light the shadows somewhat. (ever heard the term "blue hour"?) In theory, that should do it somehow.

Great atmosphere!

lovely work. I am sure whit a little playing you can manage the light. :) Try to put it behind the window.

fantastic image!! SUPER*

i love the scenery, and i think your lighting is very successful so far. i think it might be a bit yellow, but i'd suggest finding reference photos and working towards those rather than any opinion. the only thing that really looks off to me are the leaves of the plant. somehow, they seem as if the light on them is coming from the wrong direction. just wonderful pose, and i the feel of this piece is sublime. the clothes really seem to fit the setting, while being fairly revealing. it's a very brown and earthy piece- is that what you were going for? congratulations on such an accomplished image.

Colors are perfect and lighting is great as far as I see.

Nice - I agree on the lighting - dont use VUE so I cant help there.

Ahem. This is pure poser. No Vue anywhere.

I like the pose and I especially love her contented expression. I know you're feeling your way with the lighting and since my own lighting is generally hit or miss, I'm not going to offer any unfounded suggestions. What I would suggest is that you might change plants. Because of the size and leaf coloration the plant in that position seems to be in direct competition with the woman. It seems too busy to me. With the rails and the rail shadows there's a lot going on in the forefront of this image. A smaller and/or darker leafed plant would help give the image some breathing room and return the focus to the woman. It might also help with the lighting issues, because it's probably going to be hard to find a realistic lighting solution that works on both the pale leaves and the darker clothing/hair.

I don't think the lights are so very amiss - in fact I like them, especially the beams that come through the window. I would agree with kalon about the plant, though. Without it you woul perhaps obtain a calmer atmosphere which would be more fitting to your sundown-theme. Her expression is great!

I really like the rays of light falling through the shutters. That said, I think you're going to be explaining to people all the time "No it's because the lights are on inside" unless you change something to make that obvious. It does look confusing and jarring at first. I can think of a couple of solutions: 1. Put in a smaller window in the wall through which is visible the lit room. 2. Move the scene indoors. Yeah I know. I also agree with the suggestion about changing the plant for something darker-leaved. That variegated texture just looks off for this scene. I really like your model and her pose. Not sure if the bump on her skin is just a tiny bit harsh across the chest. It's good to see a naturally-proportioned woman instead of another pinup-girl.

The picture is very good but indeed, it's misleading. Initially I thought that the rays of light were from the sun. Reading the comments i understood what it was. In any case, it looks good. I agree with cobaltdream about the plant, it looks completely wrong to me.
