Description

Is this a predatory shield bug? He turned to confront me as I approached within a few cm, standing his ground while I fiddled with the macro controls. I think his hunting perch is called a Sego Lily, which is interesting to find in Santa Clara County, CA, since it isn't supposed to occur West of Arizona.

Thank you Richardphotos! It's not like any Assassin Bug I'd ever seen before, but it does indeed look like a Bee Assassin, Apiomerus crassipes, from the family Reduviidae. Good call!
