Description
Nikon 7900 image.
This year I made it a point to provide climbing supports for a number of Passion Flower Vines that are growing in a clearing on my land. I first notice their presence last year. I like the flowers and the foliage provides food for several species of butterfly caterpillars.
The new vines at less than 6 inches long and have only a few leaves but already are providing food for this years first hatching of Varigated Fritillary caterpillars.
This one was about 1/2 inch long. By looking very closely, I saw some that were no more than 1/8 inch in length. Hopefully I will be able to get some shots of the new Butterflies when they start emerging this summer.
In the mean time, this is the primary purpose of these colorful little eating machines - Nibble, Nibble, Nibble.

You are too kind. I weep when I see caterpillers eat my leaves. I feel so bad that my plants are suffering. Never thought much about the caterpillers needed the food. Great shot.
