Wow! This is fascinating! The news clips are a history lesson, and the entries are a wonderful glimpse into a personal life at the time. How cool!

My grandfather kept a diary when he was a POW in Germany in World War One. He wasn't a learned man, and there's no mention of politics or the war in general at all. Most entries are about the (relatively fair) treatment and the (little) food he got. At least it got me to know more about him years after he died of pneumonia on the waterfront, aged 55. I'm 55 at present, and I don't know how lucky I am never to have lived through a war. I really appreciated this picture. Excellent job!

A nice, down-to-earth shot, Rozanne. It makes us pause and ponder the past, and how we will use our present and, God willing, our future. Nice to see some 'real writing' - i.e. using a fountain pen. There is a definite personality to penmanship, as opposed to rollerballs and biros. We recognise and warm to the way others form their letters, and their turn of phrase. Old letters bring back many memories. I wonder if e-mails will do so, forty years down the line.. . My father used a lovely old pen, a PARKER 51, given to him in 1951 as a present. I was given it, and it still works. He was corry-fisted, but like all left handers, of his generation, was forced to write with his right hand. My twin, a teacher, is ambidextrous, and can write with both hands, at the same time, on the white board, or on pupils' permission slips etc. I still use a fountain pen on occasion, but no longer for sketching ( in non-waterproof 'Indian Ink' ), but was shocked last week to be able to buy a very good quality PARKER pen, in a sale, for 1.99 / E3.00. It seems that they are obsolete. Sorry for rambling on. Enjoy the weekend, and hopefully the weather. Regards, John.

Tener un diario que relate etapas de nuestra vida debe de ser fanttico. Siempre he querido hacerlo... pero... siempre hay un pero. Una pena. Magnico documento Rozanne.

I admire anyone with the discipline to keep a diary or journal. The closest I have ever gotten is what I post here at RR. LOL Some things I would rather not remember , and the one's I want to remember I have no trouble doing so. Still, it must be an interesting trip going back over 5 years time. What a wonderful photograph, Rozanne. Hugs, Suzanne

It's somewhat humbling to look at something like that from the past, and then look at our world: How are we doing any better? Fantastic piece, and a real reminder of what is important in this life.

Wow...such discipline, and of such eventful times. I just have wee jumbled notes and of course my gallery pages which form a sort of diary. I can look back on nearly a year of posts and enjoy the memories. Its also good to know others share my pics. And I get to look at how others view the world. One day Renderosity will be seen as a huge archive of our times.

After reading carefully this diary page I noticed that the first year of its use was 1939 but you dont give the dates of the 2 press clippings you added to the diary. I just discovered that on the right page of mine, my father mentionned the assassination attempt to Hitler ! I was surprised it happened so early.
