It is a deception of the senses. The warm orange cast upon the rocks gives an impression of warmth or a tropical climate. While looking at the landscape covered in what appears to be snow (but could be sand)and seeing the crisp cool defined sun in blueish hues, it takes on the premise that this place is not so warm. mmmmmmmmmmmm

Years ago, I was stranded on that very island. Sirrus and Achenar my only 'companions'. They played me against each other and their father in the hopes of tricking me into freeing them. Fortunately, I did evade their deceits and snares. Once a finally freed Atrus from D'ni, I more fully explored the surviving Ages of Myst in hopes of finding some of those peoples who once dwelt in these fantastic places. To no avail. Finally, as there was no route home at that point, I retired to the Channelwood Age (residing in Sirrus' accommodations of coarse) until Atrus recruited me to rescue Catherine from Ghenn in the Riven Age. Beautiful rendering.
