Description
There once was a glowing red planet named Zephyria. Her radiance filled the night sky.
She was so beautiful that she captured the heart of the Dark Lord. He fell in love ,and
his desire for her became all consuming. He called to his most skilled blacksmiths.
"Build me an implement from the metals of the great black cloud. Forge it in the fires of
Isidis. I will use this implement to cross the path of Zephyria, and it will bring her to me!"
The blacksmiths worked for many months until the implement was finished.
Finally they brought it to the Dark Lord, and he named it "Lucifers Hammer"
Then he looked into the starry sky and there was Zephyria. He called to her "My love"
whereupon he loosed the hammer with a mighty roar. Straight to her it flew like a burning
streak across the heavens. Then suddenly the Dark Lord screamed in anguish. "No!No!"
As he looked on in horror, the great iron hammer struck his beloved deep in the heart!
In an instant she was shattered into pieces! Then the Dark Lord was broken,
and he wept a "Devils Rain" of bitter tears, that still fall from the heavens to this day.
All fractal elements were created with Apophysis 2.05 Beta Z Plus except
"The Hammer" it was created with LunarCell.

I thought when I read the title that you meant the Larry Niven/Jerry Pournelle book of the same name, but then I read your summary beneath the scene. Excellent rendering of that story and I especially like the way the single flame stretching from the "hammer" to the top right looks like the rope with which the hammer was thrown :).
