Description
Being really really bored and not happy with the fuzzy infrared pictures I was getting because of long exposure times, I decided to take apart my fuji to see if it had one of those easily removable IR screens. Easily removed but it was glued to a gasket surrounding the image sensor, so it turned out to be a one way conversion. After taking it apart 3 times to get all the connections seated properly and recoving from 3 bouts of "oh boy, I blew something up" it powered up and the lcd on the back was showing live images through the hoya r72 filter. whewwww. And it doesn't appear that I added any noticable dust specs.
This pic shows some of the potential of the camera, it was a very windy cloudless day(remnants of tropical storm Barry) and is handheld with a wratten 87 filter. All autofocus and white balancing functions still work. Plus it has live preview. Noise is still troublesome even at iso 64. This picture is a composite of a noise reduced copy(sky only) and a copy without noise reduction(all the trees). The noise reduction was badly blurring the detail of the pine needles.
Now its on to IR waterdrop and soapbubble pics. :)

Wow... I know I wouldn't dare do anything so ambitious to a camera. Nice result though.

Strange, I get very little noise in the sky with my modded cam. Congrats on the do it yourself job, the results are well worth it!!

Well done,,My D70 will do some infrared but the D200 will not. I am not going to modify that one!
