They were known as frontiersmen, mountain men, trappers, buffalo hunters,...Some of them were proficient in many of the tribal languages and been used as intrepreters, some of them were incredible marksmen who knew the land and were recruited to act as scouts and messengers for the armies...That night, the Shawnees had attacked nearby Fort Driscoll using smuggled guns and ammunition...The scouts were sent to the Seneca tribes to implore them to stay neutral in the coming conflict...
