Description

One for Luis who has shown us how lovely pigeons can be.. The Nicobar pigeon surely is one of the most beautiful of the many species of pigeons or doves. It is not a well described bird perhaps due to not being seen very often outside of bird collections as it inhabits deep undergrowth in the forests and mangroves of its native Indo Australian regions between the Nicobars, Philippines and New Guinea. In the literature it is said to be rather thick-set a little unfair but with a relatively small head, the grace of the bird to my eye is superb, but I guess some may see it looks portly, but is heavier than most pigeons the same size. The colouration is dark green iridescent, with a short white tail. Display plumage of the neck is green with coppery and greenish slate-blue overtones which droop down from the head. And the body provides us with a magical range of colours almost like a Peacock Feathers of the mantle and wing coverts are pointed. The bill is black to grey, the legs are red, and the iris is white in adult females, but brown in sub-adults and males like this one.

Thank you Danny for this lovely and wonderful pigeon.. the colours and DOF look perfect. Look very strange and diferent with the species I see here. The pigeon of here is around 3 or 4 species, but the custom look very colourful and the owner can identificate in the challenge and competition flying. I learn with every pic from you. I feel so honored you dedi this pic for me. Thank you so much for your reference and kindness. Hugs. Luis

I can't stop starring at this. What an amazing pigeon! The feather length and shape is marvelous and the face almost pinched looking. It is thrilling to see such a pigeon just as it was thrilling to meet those colorful ones Luis introduced us to. Beautiful capture. I wish it had all of the body as well as feet but even without, it is a treasured experience.
