Description
Mount Grace Priory is the best preserved and most accessible of the ten Carthusian charterhouses in England. Founded in 1398, it was the last monastery established in Yorkshire before the Reformation, and an expression of the fashion for piety and strict living of the time. Unlike other monks, who lived in common, the Carthusians lived as hermits, each occupying his own cell (more like a small house), and coming together rarely in the chapel for certain prayers.

The old and the new great shot. I like how the light has bought out the greenery. Your stories behind your pictures are very informative it brings your pictures to life, keep up the good work. Excellent

Despite the grand scale of these impressive ruins, my eye is drawn to the stone cross in the centre, beautifully aligned with the arches. Lovely colours and great POV. xx

A striking view of the monastic ruins. I've had the same white overcast in a number of my outdoor shots, too. Can't help the atmospherics. So much beauty was lost in the Protestant Reformation, because in the words of Martin Luther, "Junker Heinz does as he lusts." And that was for power as well as lovely Anne.
