Description

Hi all, How's everyone doing? I've had a few people wanting to see the difference the tone mapping makes and some asking what it is. SO though I'm not crazy about the pic I'm posting this in an attempt to answer a few of these questions... SO first of all, please don't be offended but if you really wanted to find out what tone mapping is ya could Google, but here's a link to"Wikipedia" anyway. So hopefully that'll answer that question... For those who might want to know what program I use to do it, I use Photomatix I got the pro pack so I tend to use the filter version of it in Photoshop to do the tone mapping AFTER converting it to a 16-bit image. Isn't that such a lazy way to answer something like that *giggles* I will get around to making a tutorial for those that care to find out just what I'm doing in Photomatix. Sorry ya have to wait for it to load but below is an animation of the image above starting with the untouched shot out of the camera, then tone mapped one finally followed by my postworked one...
animation Thanks for the kind words on my previous post: My previous picture</div></body></html>

Great pic, I like the water in the foreground personally, I think it adds depth and the ripples in the water add character. I placed my hand over the bottom half of the pic and it really loses something without that shimmering foreground. Thanks for the info Kai, it seems to bring out the detail and vibrancy in the pic really well, the sequence shows it off really good. I look forward to the tutorial. Jenny

Not a lazy answer at all, and your animation shows the effect beautifully. If I ever wanted to know about tone-mapping, now I want to even more than ever. I'm going to make this a favorite, not only because it's so wonderful and surreal looking, but because then I will have the link to more info about it. Thanks for posting this Kai. I'm inspired and excited now, lol. Have a great vacation sweetie. -M :^)
