Description

I made this image to focus on the space where advertising began. I looked up the first appearance of ads in the London Gazette. Here, the image is a mockup of something resembling WW-II coverage. It came at a time the decision was made to use artillery on a town, reversing previous policy. It's not an editorial or opinion piece. It's simply coverage. Now for the subtle distinction. I searched for a flower called a saxafragia who's popular name is "London Pride" to represent my foray into advertising and gave it to a censor. This was in the middle eighties. I even followed some of Anthony Franco's views on public relations. I visited a local advertising office though did not really attempt to connect. The tie to JWT is that JWT was a Marine in the Civil War before he bought the advertising agency he worked for. This campaign in Fallujah was a Marine action. Don't forget the "Devil Dogs" of WW-I.

The dog..friend or menace to a poor unsuspecting paper boy?!! Who can say? Nice touches like crewcut hair and military pants. Great stuff!
