Description

The other day I stopped after work at my favorite local nursery. Credit where it's due! I only pointed my camera at stuff, I didn't grow it! Wight's is in Lynnwood, Washington. www.wights.com. This afternoon I finally did my first run-through of the four hundred thirty-four photographs I took there! (What on EARTH was I thinking? Somebody needs to stop me!) I came across this shot (#85) and it dropped me in my tracks. I didn't Photoshop the background - it came out of the camera that way. I did do some postwork, but not much. So if you want to purchase some fine roses, I suggest you consider Wight's! They were very nice and just left me alone while I wandered around taking pictures of everything. Nobody gave me any aggro, and the only person who even looked at me funny was a customer . . . but that's another story, which I promise I'll tell you later!

That is absolutely the pinnacle of loveliness in rose, or even flower, photography! Fantastic POV, super clarity, detail and lighting effects, a minimum of postwork...words fail me in my admiration of this capture, my dear! Hence, I will now spend the rest of the evening trashing the rose photos I did not post as yet. What's the use, how can I ever match this?

Aren't you glad that "film" is free with digital cameras? I do stuff like that all the time. It's not at all unusual to come back from a short trip with several hundred photos. But I'm finally getting better and deleting the bad ones. Regarding this shot, it stopped me in my tracks, too. Perfect composition, and an almost perfect DOF. The flower did its part, too; what a great color. Ten stars!!
