Description

I was searching for reference photos of old houses and came across a couple of sites that had all sorts of miscellaneous old family photos. Evidently they are found at flea markets and estate sales. They would seem useless and unimportant to anyone outside the original owners. As a collection, it's fascinating to look at them and imagine the stories behind each picture. Kind of sad and nostalgic too wondering why they aren't in a family album somewhere on a dusty shelf. Then there was a section of photos where the faces were cut out, scratched out, or obscured by a pen. They might have been defaced from anger, or just kids playing. Those cutout might have been done to erase a bad memory, or maybe placed in a locket by a sweetheart. Who knows? After I rendered this, I made the cutout in Photoshop and felt the distant memory of my father who left when I was five years old and we never saw him again. Weird night.

Thats a sensational piece of artwork - simple, yet so evocative. You've captured the moment so concisely and its poignant how it reminds you of your father. Makes me think of the movie, "The Man Who Wasn't There". 5 stars from me!

Excellent and interesting concept. Inspires me. Like you, I had an "absent" father. Had a great maternal uncle to model myself after, though. Hope you had someone too.
