Description

well as you can guess by now im a great fan of ladybirds, they can produce some great images and are wonderful little posers. its surprising the difference in colour of some of these little creatures as you can see from these two. seven black spots on the elytra identify this familiar garden insect. they tend to exude a strong smelling fluid if handheld. this is its defence against birds and other predators. adults and larvae are both voracious aphid hunters. the steely blue, yellow spotted larvae of this and the smaller two spotted ladybird are often abundant in gardens. size 5-9mm habitat almost anywhere, sometimes migrates in swarms. range all europe. season all year but dormant in winter. another shot from the back garden. its surprising how many insects and creatures you can find in your back yard and for me its a passion to hunt them down. Camera: minolta 5d Lens: sigma 105mm iso 400 1/160sec f9

PORN PORN! Hehe just kidding. Great shot indeed. Actually I have just finished watching a documentary on these little guys, and although they look really cute they are actually viscous little killing machines to their prey.

Ya just gotta love that title!! With the foreboding onset of little ones (at least after this act!!) it's all downhill LOL!!! Only joking - don't all go getting on at me about how wonderful kids really are!! This is amazing photography Clint and I spent half an hour at lunchtime trying to capture some of them with quite a good success rate, but they can be really quick.... when they want to avoid the lens!! I love the composition with the leaf diagonally across the image and the DOF is stunning to make this almost appear 3D. Colours, lighting and focus are top notch too. Great capture. xx
