Description

Nikon 7900 image. Here is a basically harmless non-venomous snake that trys various stratagies to defend itself when threatened. First it will try to get away but it is not especially fast so this often fails to work. Next, it will spread it's neck, coil it's body, hiss and then strike out but seldom actualy bites. Finally, it will roll on it's back with it's mouth wide open and it's tongue hanging out loosely. It will maintain this posture for up to maybe 15 minutes before it finally starts trying to escape again. Many people call it a Spreading Adder or a Puff Adder. I came across this one on my way to the mailbox and spent maybe 30 minutes before I managed to get a decent shot. I originally cropped the image because of a big hot spot on the left hand side but the result was "squatty". I then decided to recrop it but I used the 2 "panels" to demonstrate the difference between "before editing" and "after editing". Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

That's a great shot, and sweet idea showing the two panels of 'before' and 'after'!
